The version of Horde / Webmail we use on SME 9 is quite outdated. Is it possible to update the Horde version used on SME 9 so all Users that use iphone or ipad (this are arround 30% of all userr in my customer Field) Beside that, the Horde version used in SME9 is not poor in matter of optics too! best to everyone working in the super project! Rudi
Closing. See discussion in Bug 6653 NOTABUG as was not a bug with SME 9

Hi Ian, Currently there are 132 files, that take up 123MB. All files are current as of 3-20-2014. I just uploaded new zip files to my contribs directory today. One issue some may have are the inclusion of the latest pear files. Using horde5, those devs always harp on using the latest updates, so I have been trying to keep up with that. Which means some of the pear files are newer and haven't been included in the latest CentOS updates. I've been using these without issues, but that's just me. If we want to consider bundling this in the next beta, I'm fine with that, but let's move this discussion to bug 6653, and talk about how to proceed.

If Horde 5 is working then we should consider changing to that before leaving Beta. John, what would it take to include Horde 5 into SME 9?

We need a decision about either moving Horde 5.1 to Contribs, or including this package(s) into sme9. A decision for the Sr. Devs to make. Resolving back to CONFIRMED in the meantime.
Hi John, i just now installed the new Horde on the SME9 ... Where this Version should be part of the standard Package anyway! And it worked perfect! THANKS!! Best Rudi
When the mirrors sync, you should be good to go. The file dates should show 3-13-2014. This bug might need to be re-classified for a contrib, since horde 5.1 isn't included in SME9.

I'll upload new current files today for you to use. I had already had php-process installed on my system when I did that upload, so it was missed being included. Subsequent testing showed it was needed, and is included now. I'll post a note, when I've uploaded the new files, but don't know how long the mirrors will take to sync. All horde files are current as of today.
Hi Chariy, thanks for the fast response! This may be a stupid Question for you, but how do i inistall this? And: I only installed SME9 and the Updates since .. why is there a difference now? best Rudi
(In reply to Rudi from comment #11) > Cool is that he wants for a change a lower version :-) All the php-XXX packages need to be the same version. You have php-common-5.3.3-27.el6_5.i686 installed, so you need to install php-process-5.3.3-27.el6_5.i686, not php-process-5.3.3-23.el6_4.i686.
Hi John, i just tried to install the Package you put online .. (well i know it is not available anymor on the link below .. ) BUT: It does not work correct because it misses a Dependency: Error: Package: php-process-5.3.3-23.el6_4.i686 (/php-process-5.3.3-23.el6_4.i686) Requires: php-common(x86-32) = 5.3.3-23.el6_4 Installed: php-common-5.3.3-27.el6_5.i686 (@smeos) php-common(x86-32) = 5.3.3-27.el6_5 Available: php-common-5.3.3-26.el6.i686 (base) php-common(x86-32) = 5.3.3-26.el6 Cool is that he wants for a change a lower version :-) Most things complain about the opposite :-) best Rudi
Mirrors seem to working. You can use this to download the horde apps (horde - webmail framework, imp - mail, ingo - filters, turba - address book, kronolith - calendar, mnemo - notes, nag - tasks). They are all current. cd /root wget http://mirror.contribs.org/contribs/jbennett/horde51/horde51-rpms.zip #wget http://mirror.contribs.org/contribs/jbennett/horde51/horde51-srpms.zip unzip horde51-rpms.zip cd horde51 sh Install-horde5.sh signal-event post-upgrade ; signal-event reboot The md5sum's are also on my contribs site. The install script looks for the files in /root/horde51/RPMS These work for me in my testing. New installs and upgrades. The download is about 40MB. I just verified working with 9b1, and 9b2 (i386 and x64). A lot of things I haven't tested, and I hadn't wanted to discuss this route until after 9.0's release and whatever the future direction was, but since there is interest, here it is as a contrib. IMO, this is a really big change from Horde 3 to Horde 5. It doesn't look at all like what people are used to. The traditional view that most use today, is no longer being actively developed, and is mostly ugly looking in the current version. Only the dynamic, and mobile views are being enhanced, and their behavior is different from what folks are used to. There is no real release cycle any longer for horde updates. Now that they are using PEAR, they are now taking the mantra of release early, release often, which initially made keeping up hard to do. This info is probably more appropriate for bug 6653.

(In reply to Ian Wells from comment #3) > If Rudi or maybe John had an update to horde then that could be included > into SME 9.0 as long as it does not cause me and the other devs to be > delayed. IMO such an update can be prepared and made available as a contrib, and once it has proven to be reliable and popular we could consider merging into MSL9. There's no need to make that decision yet.

I mean John Bennett not John crisp above, as John Bennett has a long history of updating Horde for SME Server. If Rudi and John could work together to test an update then it should make SME 9.0
If Rudi or maybe John had an update to horde then that could be included into SME 9.0 as long as it does not cause me and the other devs to be delayed. I also agree that an update to Horde is long overdue - but I personally will not be looking at this.
Hi John, thank you for the Fast replay. I understand ... maybe i could take on the project of updating to the higher horde version in SME 9.1!? Or maybe is it better to make a add-on Package? How deep is Horde incorporated into SME? Is it simply there as a webmail client? then it should not be so much work .. i have a server free, i could put SME9 on it and try ist out !? best Rudi
Hi Rudi, I've been trying to find the wiki article on the rational behind v9 In essence we really just wanted to get the current system onto CentOS 6 to give us a more modern base. Whatever version CentOS6 has will be in SME. It is taking a lot of work (and lots of help is still needed) just to get the base system moved. If we tried to add/change anything beyond that we would probably never get finished ! Our aim to is to look at new ideas and toys for v9.1 Here is what I originally wrote on developing 'v9' "Move the current base to CentOS 6 asap This is to allow installation on newer hardware, allow easier installation of other applications with less interference of the existing subsystem. CentOS 5 is already getting on. Users want to keep abreast of newer technologies. The pace of change is fast. We may not all like it, but we cannot change it. We have to make some sort of attempt to keep there or thereabouts. Users and developers want the knowledge that the platform will be current and supported to allow them time to develop applications for it. Current status : People are already working on porting SME to CentOS 6. It has been referred to as SME Server v9. SME v8 to be maintained for the foreseeable future, but the focus of development and effort will be on the new system to try and get it out as soon as possible. The current consensus is that though there are plenty of things that we would like to be added to v9 the best thing is to get it out of the door, and then develop new ideas for a v9.1 e.g. LDAP, SAMBA, VPS etc." You can put your requests here - they will become NFRs in time : http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server_wishlist B.
